Welcome to DoulaNatur & MyBreastfeeding, where we pride ourselves in offering the highest quality Doula and Breastfeeding services by providing You and Your family with practitioners that have extensive experience and expertise in their respective fields.
Currently in Canada, many organizations comprising of students, volunteers and/or full-time professionals provide Doula and Breastfeeding Services of varying levels and at different prices. At DoulaNatur and MyBreastfeeding, all of our practitioners are dedicated professionals, with extensive experience and proven track records, who are fully accredited and certified to provide the highest quality services.
Specifically, our Doulas have obtained certifications and training by Childbirth International, DONA International and CAPPA Canada. Our Breastfeeding services are provided by Lactation Consultants that have obtained the most rigorous designation - "IBCLC" - the only international certification which is recognized as a healthcare professional in human lactation (the science) and breastfeeding (the art and practical experience). As highly trained and proven practitioners, our Doulas and Lactation Consultants are ready to provide a wide range of services, from standard support and education to the more challenging situations that require extensive clinical experience and in-depth knowledge. As with all regulated certifications in healthcare, our IBCLC's are required to adhere to a Code of Professional Conduct, which you can read about by clicking here.
The Founder of DoulaNatur and MyBreastfeeding, Maria Lameiro is the the wife of a wonderful supporting husband and mother of three amazing children. Maria is pictured left after a breastfeeding session in a shopping mall food court with her first son back in Feb. 2002. After the birth of her first baby in May, 2001, Maria knew from the start that breastfeeding was going to be her way of giving the best to her newborn baby, but had difficulties in getting help. During several months she wasn't able to get effective help from the regular sources at the hospital and general medical practitioners. At this point Maria was very confused as to why such a basic and natural process of feeding her baby, appeared to be so little understood by many doctors and staff in the birthing profession. It was then that she decided to seek out lactation specialists and met Dr. Newman that helped to resolve the main issues with her initial breastfeeding that all previous non-specialist practitioners failed to identify and resolve.
Maria went on to breastfeed her first baby for over 19 months, well into the 3rd month of her second pregnancy. Her second baby was breastfed for over 28 months (pictured here with dad), again, 4 months into the pregnancy of their third and final baby (pictured left below), who was breastfed for over 24 months.
Throughout this time and onwards, Maria continued to learn as much as possible by talking to other breastfeeding mothers, reading studies and specialist books, and eventually embarking on the road to becoming a Doula and HypnoBirthing practitioner with families that were looking for support, experience and knowledge. Maria also helped mothers and babies in reaching their breastfeeding goals by providing education and support to overcome many of the problems that sometimes make breastfeeding an important challenge for the mother-baby Dyad. After more than ten years of personal experience, as a Certified Doula and as a Certified Breastfeeding Counselor with many families, in 2012, Maria obtained the rigorous IBCLC certification from IBLCE while also obtaining the Diploma in Lactation Medicine from the Dr. Newman Breastfeeding Clinic at the International Breastfeeding Centre in Toronto. Given that the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) does not cover Doula or Lactation Consultant service fees, Maria and her team will work with you to provide alternatives for the budget conscious families, by either providing 50% reduced fees for MyBreastfeeding Services during our "Community Mondays" at our Offices, or by referring you to organizations that have volunteer Doulas, Lactation Counselors and students-in-training. Maria Lameiro is an active labour Doula in the Birth-Doula Program at the Scarborough General Hospital and strongly believes that all families have the right to benefit from a Holistic approach to Breastfeeding and Nurturing our most precious gifts in life - our children.
